Pertamina oil pipe in Palembang catches fire

An oil pipeline segment in Palembang, South Sumatra owned by state oil and gas company PT Pertamina caught fire on Friday, Kompas.Com reported.

The pipeline transported crude from Jambi to Plaju refinery. The fire was finally put off in the evening.

A Pertamina staff said that the cause of the fire was currently being investigated. Most of oil pipelines in South Sumatra are old and located close to residential areas.

The staff, however, said that crude supply to Plaju was not affected as the burning pipeline was a backup pipeline. (*)
