Pertamina, Para Group plan three geothermal power projects

State-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina on Wednesday singed a preliminary agreement with Para Group to build three geothermal power plants in Ulubelu (Lampung) and Kamojang (West Java) and Lahendong (North Sulawesi) with a combined capacity of 1,060 megawatts.

?We still need more investment (to tap the country?s geothermal potential),? Pertamina's president director, Widya Purnama told reporters, adding that the projects will need a total investment of US$1.5 billion.

Para Group is owned by businessman Chairul Tanjung. Tanjung said his side would provide US$300 million for the project. It has businesses in banking, property and television broadcasting. (godang)
