The Pertamina and PetroChina East Java joint operating body (JOB) has applied for a new permit to drill the Sukowati IV oil well in Bojonegoro, Central Java license following its failure to find an oil deposit there.
The JOB believed that it had failed to find an oil deposit in the past because of a wrong drilling method.
"If (oil and gas upstream authority) BP Migas issues another (drilling permit) for us, we are optimistic that the Sukowati IV oil well will soon produce crude oil,” said Pertamina-PetroChina East Java JOB’s field manager Victori S. Kirana in Bojonegoro, Thursday as quoted by Kontan daily.
Under the new drilling plan, the JOB will strive to find the oil deposit by changing the direction of its drilling. “If successful, we estimate production could reach about 2,500 barrel per day (bpd), which is similar with the amount of oil produced by other Sukowati wells,” he said, adding the output will bring Sukowati field's oil output to 20,000 bpd. The JOB has thus far found eight wells.
He said that the Sukowati block has also gas deposit but the JOB would give the right to develop the gas deposit to other companies. “An investor has expressed its interest in operating and developing the gas well, with output expected to be delivered to power plants,” he said. (*)
