State-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina has proposed for an integrated LNG to power project in Bangladesh that would include the supply of LNG, and the development of LNG infrastructure facilities such as floating storage and regasification unit and pipeline to transmit gas to local power plants.
Director of Gas at Pertamina, Yenni Andayani said that the company had on August 31 submitted expression of interest to the government of Bangladesh for the project, which led to the signing of a MoU on LNG cooperation between Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan, and visiting Bangladesh Minister of Energy Nasrul Hamid on Friday.
Yenni said that Pertamina has initiated to set up a consortium with Bangladesh? Petrobangla and international firms to develop the proposed project, which forms part of efforts by the state firm to diversify its LNG market beyond the traditional markets of Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.
Bangladesh next year is expected to suffer gas/LNG deficit of around 1 million tons, which will continue to rise to up to 11 million tons by 2030.
