State-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina (Persero) plans to build a 330-MW gas power plant in a special economic zone (KEK) in Palu, Central Sulawesi through Independent Power Producer (IPP) scheme, according to a senior official of the firm.

"With a capacity of 330 MW, the power plant will need an approximately 50 mmscfd of gas supply," Director for Gas, New and Renewable Energy Yenni Andayani said in Jakarta.

According to Yenni, the gas will be sourced from the Bontang LNG plant, in East Kalimantan, which is situated relatively close to the planned location of the power plant -- about 400 km away.

KEK Palu was established by the government through Government Regulation No. 31/2014 issued on May 20, 2014. According to reports, the special economic zone occupies 1,500 ha of lands in Tawaeli district, close to Palu?s Pantoloan port. Dozens of investors have expressed interest to open manufacturing plants there.

"The power plant is part of the integrated development plan of the economic zone. Besides, we shall also build an LNG receiving terminal and pipelines there,? Yenni said.

Deputy Mayor of Palu, MulhananTobolototu said lands for the power plant to be built Pertamina have been prepared by the government in the economic zone.
