The state-owned oil and gas firm is studying the possibility of selling liquefied natural gas (LNG) to El Paso in the U.S., which if realized, would be the first step for Pertamina to market LNG outside its traditional market like Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan.
?Initial talks have been made since August 2001. They (El Paso) have expressed seriousness to purchase LNG from Pertamina,? an industry source told Petromindo.com.
?We?ll try to take this opportunity,? the source said.
El Paso has four LNG receiving terminals in the U.S.
The company is planning to develop four new terminals in Altamira (2004), Bahamas (2005), and North California (2005). The development of this facility would increase the company?s LNG receiving capacity by 17.35 billion tons per annum.
The source said it expected Pertamina to be able to supply at least 2.5 million tons of LNG per annum to El Paso starting 2002.(Arry)
