Pertamina plans to reactivate 100 suspended wells

State owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina EP plans to reactivate 100 out of total 5,144 suspended oil wells in several oil fields this year to support the company?s program to further boost oil production.

?We are still identifying the wells locations. We will ask for permits from BPMIGAS as soon as we identify and locate them ,? Pertamina EP Director for Operation Doddy Priambodo told Petromindo.com, saying that most of the wells are somewhere in Jambi, South Sumatra, East Java and East Kalimantan.

Meanwhile PT Pertamina EP President Director Syamsu Alam said that the reactivation of the suspended oil wells have begun since 2008 as part of the company?s program to increase production. He said reactivating suspended wells was not an easy job because of the various different problems of each well and also because the company lacked data on the history of the suspended wells within its areas.

Various works should be done before the reactivation, such as the study on the surface of the wells and their condition, he said, adding that most of the suspended wells would be in need of repair works before they can resume operation.
