Pertamina plans two mini LNG facilities

State-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina plans to develop two mini LNG facilities in Papua and East Kalimantan.

The necessary gas supply for the mini LNG facilities will come from the Salawati Block in Papua and Simenggaris Block in East Kalimantan, Vice President of Gas Directorate at Pertamina, Salis Aprilian told Petromindo.com Tuesday.

He said that the gas from the LNG facilities will be used to supply gas-fired power plant in Halmahera, Maluku, owned by mining firm PT Aneka Tambang, and power plants belonging to state-owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara.

?There are two mini LNG projects planned by Pertamina in Salawati Block and Simenggaris Block,? Salis said.

He said that the planned project is currently still being finalized by Pertamina, upstream authority SKK Migas, and local firm owned by the Raja Ampat Regency administration in Papua.

Salis said that considering mini LNG is a new business, both Pertamina and SKK Migas must be extra careful in its planning including in determining the business supply chain.
