Pertamina, PLN in 830-MW geothermal deal

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE), a unit of state oil, gas firm PT Pertamina (Persero) on Thursday signed an HoA with state electricity firm PT PLN (Persero) to jointly develop geothermal resources in PGE?s working area in Indonesia.

Under the deal PGE would either sell steam or electricity to PLN. Under the first scheme PGE would only develop steam plant and the power stations would be built by PLN and under the second scheme PGE would develop the power stations.

The first scheme would see development of steam plants with combined capacity to fuel 400MW and in the second scheme PGE would develop 430MW power plants.

The projects are expected to be completed in 2013-14. (bernard)
