Pertamina, PLN sign Lampung geothermal deal

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE), a unit of state oil and gas company PT Pertamina (Persero) and state electricity firm PT PLN (persero) on Wednesday signed Steam Sales Agreement from PGE?s Ulubelu geothermal concession in Lampung, Sumatra.

Under the deal, PGE will sell steam to generate 2x55MW power plant that would be built by PLN.

PGE will supply steam with price of 4.2 US cents per kwh with annual escalation of 2 percent over a period of 30 years. Commercial operations is expected in 2012.

PLN, at the same time, also signed EPC contract with Japan?s Sumitomo Corp., which teams up with national firm PT Rekayasa Industri to build the Ulubelu unit 1 and 2 power plant with combined capacity of 110 MW.

Contract value is $156.7 million which is financed by softloan from JBIC. Construction will be completed in 32 months from effective contract date. Unit 1 will start in July 2012 with the second unit follows 4 months after.(bernard)
