Pertamina, PLN to build coal-fired power plant in Java

State oil and gas firm Pertamina said on Tuesday its 67 percent subsidiary PT. Geodipa Energy had signed an MoU with a Chinese company to build 300-megawatt coal powered power plant in Java.
Pertamina president Baihaki Hakim said the power plant would be build either in the city of Cilacap in Central Java or in Cilegon, Banten province.
?We will soon conduct study to determine the best location. But Pertamina would prefer the power plant to be built in Cilacap, to secure electricity requirement for Cilacap Refinery, said Baihaki.
Baihaki said the plan was to start construction as early as late 2004.
Geo Dwipa is a joint venture company with state electricity firm PLN with Dieng geothermal power plant in Central Java and Patuha geothermal power plant in West Java as assets. (godang)
