State-owned diversified energy company PT Pertamina projects that the consumption of high-octane fuel Pertamax could overtake the use of low-octane Premium fuel in 2024 as consumers would use less Premium fuel.

CEO of Pertamina Subholding for Commercial and Trading, Mas'ud Khamid, said in January last year, Pertamina distributed 92,000 kiloliters (kl) per day of gasoline. This consists of Pertalite 49,600 kl, Premium 31,600 kl, Pertamax 10,300 kl, and Pertamax Turbo 500 kl per day.

In September this year, the volume of gasoline distributed to consumers reached 85,000 kl per day, consisting of Pertaline 50,600kl, Premium 23,100 kl, Pertamax 10,600 and Pertamax Tubro 700 kl per day. So, there is an uptrend consumption of Pertamax fuel,

Mas'ud Khamid projected that the consumption of fuel would rise to 106,400 per day in 2024, consisting of Pertalite 61,200 per day, Pertamax 29,900 kl, doubles than the use of Premium of a projected 13,800 kl, and Pertamax Turbo 1,600 kl per day.

The increased use of high-octane fuel is in line with the government's effort to increase the use of lower-emission fuel.
