State owned oil and gas company Pertamina will increase the prices of its high-octane fuel Pertamax and Pertamax Plus to Rp 5,700 and Rp 5,900 per liter, respectively, from Rp 4,000 and Rp 4,200 at present.

Pertamina?s marketing and commercial director Ari Sumarno said in Jakarta on Friday that the new prices of the high-octane Pertamax and Petamax Plus fuels would be effective on September 1.

Unlike Premium and diesel oil fuel, Pertamax and Pertamax Plus receive no subsidy from the government. The last increase in the prices of the two types of fuels were made in December, last year when their price of Pertamax was increased to Rp 4,000 per litter from Rp 2,450, and that of Pertamax Plus to Rp 4,200 from Rp 2,750.

Since then, their prices have not been adjusted despite the increase in the crude oil in the international market. The government has also announced that it would increase the prices of Premium and diesel oil in a bid to cut the fuel subsidy which has increased sharply due to the surge in the crude oil prices in recent months.
