State oil and gas firm Pertamina will increase production from its Tambun oilfield in Bekasi near Jakarta from the current 2,000 barrels per day gradually to 10,000 BPD within the next two years, according to a company official.

?We plan to ramp up production to 5,000 BPD of oil in 2002, and 10,000 BPD in 2003,? said Iin Arifin Tkahyan, Pertamina?s upstream director in a press meeting Tuesday.

He said in 2001 Pertamina drilled 2 delineation wells and was preparing for development works.

He also said that further exploration works would be carried out next year to add to the reserve.

Pertamina took over Tambun oil field from Japan?s oil firm JOLCO in 1991 after the latter declared the oil finding in the field uneconomic. Pertamina then conducted another drilling and managed to find economic reserve.(alex)
