PT. Pertamina as a state-owned company is currently focusing on preparing quality human resources to run effective business process, particularly in its refineries, which are required to maintain the national energy sovereignty amid vibrant business situation in this digital era.

Pertamina Mega Projects and Petrochemical (MP2) Director Ignatius Tallulembang made the statement during a ceremony to sign a memorandum of understanding on development of vocational education to meet human resource need for the refinery projects at Pertamax room, 21st floor of Pertamina building on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019.

“Pertamina is assigned to develop the national energy security and sovereignty. With a total population of 270 million, Indonesia certainly needs a huge amount of energy. The human resource factor is the key to our success in developing our energy infrastructure. That’s people rejuvenation,” he said.

Pertamina is preparing human resources, so that regeneration of human resources for refineries can be realized as expected.

“We’re preparing potential operators of our refineries in the future. We’re preparing the module. Then, Pertamina is also preparing on the job training. We train human resources to be more capable and more confident in doing our future energy businesses,” said Ignatius.

Therefore, Pertamina has agreed to partner with five polytechnics to develop vocational education to meet the human resource need for its refinery projects.

Pertamina Human Resource Director Koeshartanto said that the five polytechnics are the state-owned polytechnic of Balikpapan, state-owned polytechnic of Samarinda, state-owned polytechnic of Cilacap, AKAMIGAS of Balongan, and STT Migas of Balikpapan.

“Pertamina is developing the refineries, its physical construction and the human resources needed to operate them in the future. The refineries will not reach maximum performance if they are not operated by quality human resources. That’s why we partner with several vocational institutions to prepare excellent human resources,” said Koeshartanto.

Through Pertamina University, the partnership will be pursued to meet Pertamina’s human resource need from construction to operation of its refineries.

“We foster technical cooperation to prepare human resources. Pertamina needs a wide range of human resources, from machinery experts to electricity experts, and to experts in refinery construction and operation,” he said.
