State oil and gas company Pertamina's Karangampel Exploration and Production Unit has suffered US$25,000 per day because road access to its oil mining site in Tambuan village, Babelan subdistrict, Bekasi, West Java, was blocked by local people.
Pertamina's Karangampel unit general manager Fauzi Alwi Alkaff said his party would likely stop the drilling activities in the site if the blockage continued to prevent further losses for the company.
"If this situation goes on, we are likely to stop our activities because we do not want to suffer more losses," said Fauzi, who was accompanied by spokeswoman Sri Kustini.
The blockage, according to Fauzi, started when locals demanded Pertamina to repair the road that was destroyed by Pertamina's heavy equipment.
"We actually have planned to repair the road, and it will be realized next month. And we have conducted an open tender and it was won by a state firm (Adi Karya)," he said.
He added that Pertamina had allocated Rp 2.5 billion to repair the road.
Therefore, Fauzi called on the people to end the blockage to solve the problems. (*)
