Interim upstream authority SKMIGAS hopes that the cooperation between state oil and gas company PT Pertamina and Chinese energy firm Petrochina on the enhanced oil recovery (EOR) will result in the increase of national oil production.
?We hope that both companies will seriously pursue their cooperation on the EOR technology, so that oil production from Pertamina?s fields will increase,? SKMIGAS Operational Deputy Gde Pradnyana told Petromindo.com in Jakarta on Friday.
Gde mentioned no target of the EOR cooperation, saying that the EOR success will depend on the condition in each of fields concerned.
"It?ll depend on the field condition. For example, in Minas, if the EOR can be implemented successfully then it has a potential to increase production up to about 100,000 bopd. Basically, the EOR is aimed at increasing the recovery factor of each field,? he said.
According to Gde, currently the average recovery factor at primary condition is about 30 to 40 percent. With the EOR, the recovery factor can be raised to around 50 to 60 percent.
