PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE), a geothermal unit of state owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, has spent Rp 1.5 trillion (US$=Rp 9,025) to drill a total of 24 wells throughout this year.

PGE's president director Abadi Poernomo said of the total 33 wells it planned to drill this year, the firm could only realize the driling of 24 wells.

"There are nine wells that we are still unable to drill because the local and governments as well as the Ministry of Forestry still withhold permits (for us to carry out the driling)," he said.

"It is beyond our capacity," he added.

He said the firm planned to drill next year a total of 31 wells, including the nine wells that it was unable to drill this year, with a total investment of Rp 3.5 trillion. (Bernard)
