Pertamina?s new president unveils mission

Ariffi Nawawi, newly installed president of state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina, promised on Wednesday to improve the firm?s human resources and corporate culture.

He also said he would continue the current restructuring program of Pertamina.

Surprisingly, he said he would also review Pertamina?s plans to issue bonds. However, he did not specify which bond issues he would review.

About an hour before he made the statement, PT Pertamina Tongkang announced that it was offering US$90 million of dollar-denominated bonds and Rp 225 billion of rupiah bonds.

They are the first bonds to be issued by Pertamina?s group.

Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Laksamana Sukardi installed on Wednesday Ariffi as Pertamina?s new president to replace Baihaki Hakim.

Different from Baihaki, who spent most his oil and gas career in PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia, a multinational company, Ariffi is known as a Pertamina career official. He served as Pertamina?s upstream director for a brief period until July 9, 2001, when Baihaki was named Pertamina?s president.

During the ceremony, Laksamana also installed Alfred Rohimone as financial director, Hari Purnomo as downstream director, Bambang Nugroho as upstream director, Eteng A. Salam as human resources and development. All are Pertamina?s career official, except for Alfred, who worked for the Cabinet?s Financial Sector Policy Committee (KKSK) prior to his installment as Pertamina?s new financial director.

Earlier, sources stated Laksamana had also installed Ari Sumarno as gas development director, but Ariffi denied the statement, saying no one was installed to fill in the position.

Ariffi also said the government has named Laksamana as Pertamina?s president commissioner and his deputy Roes Aryawijaya, director general of oil and gas Iin Arifin Takhyan , chairman of the Indonesian Banking Restructuring Agency (IBRA) Syafruddin Temenggung and director general of state budget Ansari Ritonga as commissioners.
