Pertamina's oil tanker carrying about 5,000 kiloliters of marine fuel oil (MFO) ran aground off the Kayangan island near Makassar Port in South Sulawesi but no casualties were reported.
Kompas reported on Saturday that the tanker had been able to move and was waiting for its turn to unload the fuel in the port's oil terminal.
Pertamina's official said that the oil tanker ran aground near the Kayangan island after it changed the direction to avoid a collision with Sapta Samudra I ship coming from the port. The tanker intended to unload 2,000 kiloliters of the fuel in the Makassar port and another 3,000 liters in the Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya.
According to the port's official, the delay in the unloading of the fuel would not affect the fuel supply to state owned electricity company PLN's power plants in the province, the main users of the NFO fuel. (*)
