PT Pertamina’s oil tankers which are operated by the state owned oil company’s shipping unit transported crude oil and fuel of about 81 million kilo liters last year or an increase of five percent over 2002, Investor Indonesia daily reported on Tuesday.

Senior official of Pertamina’s shipping division, Ibrahim Hasyim, said in a press statement that the company’s oil tanker activities also included transporting crude oil from Central Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia to the country’s oil processing plants, in addition to distributing fuel to the country’s fuel terminals.

He said that total revenue booked by the shipping division reached Rp99.60 billion (1$=Rp1,825). The shipping division has also managed to save transportation cost by 7.5 percent to Rp40 per litter from the initial estimate of Rp43 per liter.

Pertamina’s shipping division which successfully received the international shipping standard IS0 9001 from PT Lloyd Register Indonesia under a strict criteria set by Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (MBNQA), operates 152 oil tankers with capacity ranging from 1,500 dead weight tons (DWT) to 260,000 DWT.
