State owned oil and gas company Pertamina has saved up to Rp 72.4 billion thanks to the introduction of its electronic procurement system or e-auction in February, last year, Neraca daily reported on Friday.

Pertamina's spokesman M. Harun said in Jakarta on Thursday that with the use of the e-auction, Pertamina could reduce prices of goods it procured by about 29 percent. "The success has encouraged us to introduce a new electronic transaction system to cover other kinds of procurement," he added.

He said that the new system called e-Procurement was now under preparation. When the new system is implemented, all the transaction would be carried out electronically or on-line, he added.

According to him, the online transaction would not only reduce costs and physical meeting but also can increase the speed of the transaction, he said. (*)
