Tuesday, March 5 2002 - 10:45 AM WIB

State oil and gas company Pertamina said on Tuesday that US oil, gas giant ExxonMobil had resumed gas operations in Pase field in the troubled province of Aceh after being closed for about one year.

?Gas operations in Pase field was resumed on 6.30 PM yesterday with initial output of 60 million standard cubic feet per day (MMCFD),? Siddick Nitikusumah, a Pertamina senior official told Petromindo.com.

ExxonMobil officials were not available for comment.

Pase field is the last gas field to resume operations after ExxonMobil Oil Indonesia (EMOI), an Indonesian unit of ExxonMobil stopped its Aceh gas production in March last year due to increasing security risk in the province.

EMOI supplies the entire natural gas need of Arun Natural Gas Liquefaction (NGL) plant, which exports liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Japan and South Korea.

EMOI also supplies natural gas to province?s fertilizer plants and paper mill. (godang)
