Pertamina says Lampung geothermal well could generate 10MWe of electricity

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) said production test at UBL 3 geothermal well in Ulubelu, Tanggamus regency, Lampung, confirmed potential of 10-MW equivalent of electricity.

The well, which was drilled to the depth of 2,320 meters, has a 260 degree Celsius reservoir. The well was spudded March 31, 2008 and completed May 31, 2008.

UBL 3 well is one of 15 wells planned to planned to drilled to supply steam to develop 2 x 55MW geothermal plant in Ulubelu, which will be owned and operated by state electricity firm PLN. ?For the next phase of Ulubelu development, not only Pertamina will supply steam to PLN, but also build the power plant ourselves,? the company said in a statement.

According to the company, Ulubelu working area has a 300-MW potential.

PGE is a subsidiary of state oil, gas firm Pertamina. PGE currently produces 252 MW equivalent of electricity from Kamojang in West Java, Sibayak in North Sumatra and Lahendong in North Sulawesi.

The company aims to generate 800MWe of electricity within the next five years. (godang)
