Pertamina secures land, permits for fuel depot in Sukabumi

State-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina said it has obtained the required land and permit for a planned new fuel oil depot in Sukabumi, West Java Province, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Wednesday.

The paper quoted Pertamina Senior Vice President for Fuel Retail and Marketing, Jumali, as saying that the company plans to build a fuel depot in Sukabumi with capacity of 3,000 kiloliters.

He said that the company is currently developing a pipeline from Padalarang to Sukabumi. Construction of the Sukabumi fuel depot is targeted to be completed in 3-4 years, he added.

Jumali said that the Sukabumi fuel depot will supply fuel oil products to consumers in Sukabumi, Bogor, and Cianjur, all in West Java.

As has been previously reported, Pertamina is considering to develop new satellite depots next year, with possible locations in Sukabumi and Depok (also in West Java), to ease the overload burden of the Plumpang fuel terminal in North Jakarta.

The Plumpang facility, Indonesia?s biggest fuel terminal, supplies fuel for 876 gas stations across Greater Jakarta, and Sukabumi and Puncak in West Java with an average distribution volume of 14,250 kiloliters per day or more than 20 percent of national fuel consumption.

There are fears that any disruption in the Plumpang facility may lead to fuel shortage in the Greater Jakarta Area. The existing satellite depots in Cikampek and Ujungberung in West Java do not have enough capacity to cover for Plumpang.

The Jakarta Post reported Tuesday Pertamina was reviewing the locations for the new satellite depots, including in Sukabumi or Depok, and plans to build them next year.

The new depots are projected to cover for 50 percent of Plumpang?s current distribution volume and expected to be constructed within three or four years. (*)
