Thursday, August 29 2002 - 07:30 PM WIB

State oil and gas company Pertamina is expecting crude production from its Tambun oilfield near Jakarta to increase later this year, according to a company official.

?Development works are underway to increase production from 5,000 barrels per day (BPD) to 8,000 BPD by the end of the year,? Iin Arifin Takhyan told reporters Thursday.

Pertamina took over Tambun oil field from Japan?s oil firm JOLCO in 1991 after the latter declared the oil finding in the field uneconomic. Pertamina then conducted another drilling and managed to find economic reserve.(alex/godang)
