Pertamina shuts down Plaju refinery

State-owned PT Pertamina has shut the 30,000 barrel-a-day crude distillation unit at its Plaju refinery in South Sumatra, an official said Thursday.

Pertamina shut down the CDU after a "flash fire" Tuesday, Pertamina spokesman Trikora Putra told reporters. He said he expects the company to restart the unit within days.

The Plaju refinery has a total processing capacity of 130,000 barrels a day.

A leak that occured at Pertamina's pipeline in South Sumatra also caused crude supply disruption to Plaju refinery.The leak killed one person, Pertamina EP Spokesperson M Harun said.

Pertamina is investigating the cause of the leak, he said.

The pipeline, one of several that carry oil from a gas field in Prabumulih to the Plaju refinery, hasn?t resumed operations, he said. (bernard)
