State oil and gas company PT Pertamina’s board of directors have signed an anti-corruption and anti-bribery commitment in a bid to improve the company's image that was in the past tarnished by many corruption cases.

Pertamina’s president director Ari H. Soemarno along with six directors signed the commitment in Jakarta on Tuesday a ceremony witnessed by State Minister of Administrative Reforms Taufiq Effendi.

Ari said that said that signing of the anti-corruption and anti bribery commitment by Pertamina’s board of directors was a significant move given Pertamina’s tasks to manage strategic commodities for the public.

“I admit that the public has a bad perception on Pertamina. The result of a survey on Pertamina has shown that the company is known by the public as a den of corruption, collusion and nepotism. Pertamina is also connected to manipulative or deceitful practices related to its gas stations. Those are the people’s most remembered impressions when it comes to Pertamina,” he said.

The signing of the commitment will be followed by the drafting of Pertamina Integrity Pact Module facilitated by other organizations, including the Coalition of Mutual State Execution and business circles. (*)
