State oil and gas company Pertamina has launched campaigns to inform the public of the planned development of the ninth train at the Badak liquefied natural gas (LNG) production complex in Bontang, East Kalimantan, according to a report.
East Kalimantan-based daily Jaya Post reported Pertamina had disseminated information on the development of the train to the Bontang authorities and local non-governmental organizations.
In a meeting with local NGO called the Forum of Environmentalist Society, development manager of the train Tantiyoko said that the new train, called Train I, was expected to start production in 2004.
"The bidding process for the front engineering design (FEED) of the new train is in progress," Tantiyoko was quoted by the paper as saying.
He said the new train is designed to have the production capacity of 2.95 tons of LNG, 208,000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and 90,000 condensate per year.
The paper however did not specify when the development of the train would start.
Pertamina had actually long planned to build the new train but the government later decided to prioritize the development of an LNG complex in the Wiriagar area in Irian Jaya following the discovery of huge natural gas in the area.
The paper said the government had issued a new policy early this year to speed up the development of the new train.
According to the paper, Pertamina's team for the development of the train has also started disseminating information to the public on the environmental impact analysis of the project. (*)
