PT Pertamina Refinery Unit III started on Thursday operation of the Sungai Gerong 2 port in South Sumatra to allow for an increase volume of crude feedstock supply via vessels to the refinery and discharge volume of fuel products produced by the refinery.

State-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, which owns the refinery, said in a statement that the operation of the Sungai Geron 2 port will also support the efforts to ensure fuel security particularly in the southern part of Sumatra region.

?Crude processing capacity at Refinery Unit III currently tends to increase so there must be efforts to increase crude oil intake and discharge of fuel products via vessels? the company said in the statement, adding that the operation of the port will also help increase efficiency in loading and unloading activities.

Pertamina Refinery Unit III now operates 12 ports for loading and unloading activities in Plaju and Sunga Gerong areas.
