Pertamina still struggling to stop fire at Cilacap refinery

State owned oil and gas company Pertamina was still struggling until Sunday night to stop fires at the fuel storage complex of its refinery in Cilacap, Central Java.

Pertamina?s spokesman Muhammad Harun said the firm had managed to stop fire at two tanks, the 31-T2 and 31-T3 tanks, but firefighters were however still struggling to put off fire at another tank, that is Tank 32-T104.

The refinery has a total of 207 tanks.

He said that Pertamina would soon conduct an investigation on the cause of the incident and its financial impact on the company.

Harun said that the fire at the Cilacap refinery plant not affect fuel supply especially for gasoline, kerosene and aviation fuel in Java.

The Cilacap refinery, one of seven refinery plants operated by Pertamina, has a capacity to produce 348,000 barrels a day. The plant supplies 60 percent of fuel needs in Java. (godang)
