State oil and gas firm Pertamina said Thursday it was in talks with Malaysian oil company Tately NV over the possibility to form joint venture to explore Palmerah onshore block in South Sumatra.

?Talk with Tately is underway. In principal Pertamina and Tately will form joint venture to operate the block,? said Pertamina upstream director Bambang Nugroho in a press conference.

He, however, decline to reveal the detail, citing the talks are still at early stage.

Tately won Palmerah block, which is located near ConocoPhillips-operated giant Corridor block after beating ConocoPhillips and several other E&P companies.

The block is said to have huge hydrocarbon potential. (alex/godang)
