State oil and gas company PT Pertamina and PT. Tirta Gemah Ripah have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly study the potential of mini hydro power plants (PLTM) in several locations in West Java.
The MoU, which was signed by Pertamina Gas Director Hari Karyuliarto, and Tirta Gemah Ripah President Director Johan Romadhon in Jakarta last Friday, is part of Pertamina?s efforts to support the government?s policy of developing the new and renewable energy.
He noted that the government had targeted to realize that 25 percent of Indonesia?s total energy mix will come from the new and renewable energy in 2025.
"In the near future, we?ll conduct a feasibility study in several locations in Cianjur and Tasikmalaya, with total potential generation of around 4 to 5 megawatts (MW),? said Hari Karyuliarto.
Tirta Gemah Ripah is a subsidiary of West Java BUMD (local administration owned company), which has developed mini hydro power plants (PLTM) in several locations of West Java province. One of them is the 8 MW PLTM Cirompang in Garut, which is undergoing a finalization process.
According to him, the PLTM projects are promising as their power price will only be at around Rp 656 per kWh as compared to Rp 2800 per kWh by using the oil fuels (BBM).
