Pertamina to add 47 tankers to its fleet

State oil and gas company PT Pertamina (Persero) said it would add 47 crude and LPG tankers of various sizes to its fleet from 2008 to 2014 as part of its program to strengthen fuel distribution capacity.

VP Shipping Suhartoko said that currently Pertamina has commissioned construction of 13 tankers from domestic and overseas shipyards which include one large range tanker worth US$180 million from China, five medium range tankers worth $180 million and one LPG tanker worth $14 million he said.

The long-range tanker will be delivered to Pertamina this year, he said.

Suhartoko also said that Pertamina will soon launch a tender to build a very large crude carrier (VLCC) with capacity of 300,000 tonnes DWT. (godang/bernard)
