Pertamina to build a refinery in Tuban

State owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina (Persero) is looking for strategic partners to build a refinery in Tuban, East Java, which is estimated to cost US$8-$9 billion.

The mega project is supported by the government, which has given a special assignment for Pertamina to develop it, Pertamina?s Processing Director Rachmad Hardadi said.

Business Development Senior Vice President Iriawan Yulianto said while it is a special assignment given to Pertamina, the firm is looking for strategic partner to develop the project on business-to-business basis.

The Tuban refinery is planned to have a capacity of 300,000 bpd. It will be integrated with an olefin complex with a capacity of 700,000 tons per year. It is scheduled to come onstream in 2020. The mega project is expected to absorb 20,000 workers.

The refinery will produce gasoline, diesel oil and Avtur jet fuel as well petrochemical products such as polyethylene and its derivatives, as well as polypropylene.
