State oil and gas company PT Pertamina plans to build one the so-called "mother gas station" in Jakarta and five smaller gas stations (SPBG) in Bitung and Tangerang areas, the outskirts of Jakarta, next year.

The gas stations will supply gas to retail consumers, in particular Trans Jakarta buses and taxis.

Senior Vice President for Gas of Pertamina, Nanang Untung, was quoted by Bisnis Indonesia as saying that the gas stations will be operated by Pertamina?s subsidiary PT Pertamina Gas or Pertagas.

Nanang said the gas stations will use compressed natural gas, an alternative to fuel. Therefore, Pertamina will build gas compressors in those gas stations.

Nanang said Pertamina will set gas retail price at Rp4,100 per liter premium equivalent (LSP). ?With that retail price level of Rp4,100 (per LSP), Pertamina could purchase gas from gas producers at US$4 per MMBTU),? he said.(*)
