State oil and gas company PT.Pertamina has signed MoU with Japanese tradinghouse Itochu Corporation to buy 1-1.5 million tonnes of LPG per year from Uni Arab Emirates and Qatar starting end of 2009, a company official said on Friday.
Pertamina Trading and Marketing Director Ahmad Faisal told reporters that Itochu acts as marketing agent for Qatar and UAE.
Faisal said the LPG would be needed to anticipate domestic increasing demand after government decided to give subsidy to LPG to cut down kerosene use.
He added that Indonesia would need to import 3.5-4 million tonnes of LPG annually starting 2010 if the subsidy program were successful.
Faisal said Pertamina is also approaching BP Australia and Thai oil firm PTT for LPG supply.
He added that Pertamina is currently planning to build LPG refrigeration facility. ?It could be built in West Java or East Java,? he said.(godang)
