The digitalization of fuel nozzles at all 5,518 fuel oil stations of state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina is expected to be concluded by June 2020, according to downstream oil and gas authority BPH Migas Chairman M. Fanshurullah Asa.

This portal previously reported in June that Pertamina targeted for the digitalization of fuel nozzles at all of its fuel oil stations (or SPBUs) to be completed by the end of this year.

Fanshurullah, however, said on Thursday that so far this month only 2,539 SPBUs have been digitalized.

The digitalization of fuel nozzle which uses a technology called automatic tank gauging (ATG), would enable Pertamina to have real-time data on the company’s daily fuel sales in each gas station (SPBU).  Other recorded data include vehicle plate number, fuel consumption, and status of fuel stock at each SPBU.

The data will also allow Pertamina to control the distribution of subsidized fuel oil and monitor the consumption of various fuel products.

The technology system was provided by state-owned telecommunications company PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom).

BPH Migas, Pertamina and Telkom signed the cooperation agreement in August last year as a follow up to the nozzle digitalization pilot project months earlier.

The pilot project began in early 2018 at 10 Pertamina-owned gas stations located in Jakarta, Bekasi, on the Cikopo-Palimanan (Cipali) toll road in West Java, in Yogyakarta, Sidoarjo, on the Cipularang toll road and in South Tangerang.

The technology would replace the current manual method of measuring the remaining fuel stock in gas stations, which still requires a wooden stick.
