State owned oil and gas company Pertamina will cooperate with universities and other educational institutions in the recruitment of new employees, Agus Zunedi, senior personnel manager of Pertamina?s production sharing management.

Through the so called Cooperative Education Program, Pertamina would not only be able to reduce recruitment costs by at least 50 percent but also would be able to recruit ready-to-work employees in their respective fields.

According to him, the system widely used in developed nations has been also adopted by several local companies such as PT Telkom, which has used the system in the recruitment of its new employees since 1994.

"The coop program has proven to be more successful," he said, adding that several private companies in the country such as Bukaka Teknik Utama had also adopted the system. In the oil sector, companies such as Unocal had also used the system in the recruitment of the new employees. (*)
