Pertamina to cut 2006 fuel import on falling demand

Friday, March 3 2006 - 06:58 AM WIB

State oil and gas company Pertamina said Friday it may cut fuel imports by 20 percent this year to 80 million barrels because demand is falling.

Marketing director Ari Soemarno said in 2005 Pertamina imported 100 million barrels of fuels. He told reporters in Jakarta.

Last month, Pertamina canceled a plan to import 100,000 barrels of gasoline.

Pertamina has been reducing fuel imports since December because demand fell by about 15 percent after President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono increased fuel price. (*)
