State owned oil and gas company Pertamina will intensify exploration activities at the company's Wampu field in Pangakalan Susu, North Sumatra to meet its target to double the oil and gas production from the oil field this year, Investor Daily reported on Thursday.

Indra Sahab, the head of the geology and geophysics department of Pertamina's operation unit in North Sumatra and Aceh, said in Medan on Wednesday that exploration activities at the Wampu 7 and Wampu 8 had been intensified.

The exploration activities in the two oil wells and the planned operation of the Wampu 4 would be able to double the oil and gas production from the Wampu field, which at present produces a total of 270 barrels of oil per day, and 3.5 million standard cubic feet of gas.

The field has eight wells but only two of them, the Wampu 2 and Wampu 6, have began production. (*)
