State oil and gas company Pertamina is making preparations to file an insurance claim for its Randublatung-1 exploration well in Central Java which was hit by fire, the company?s senior official told Petromindo.com on Tuesday.

?In the near future, we shall file our claim to (insurance firm) PT Tugu Pratama Indonesia,? said Pertamina?s upstream deputy director Eteng A. Salam.

Eteng however declined to mention the amount of the insurance claim.

He only said that it would have to cover well control costs, drilling costs, and obligations to third parties.

The Randublatung-1 well, located in Cepu in Central Java, caught fire on Feb. 25.

While causing no fatality, the accident forced more than 1000 villagers residing in nearby villages to leave their homes.

Uncontrolled gas blow caused the fire. (Godang)
