Pertamina to import gasoline, diesel

Monday, June 8 2009 - 04:37 PM WIB

State oil and gas company PT Pertamina, the sole distributor of subsidized fuel, plans to import 3.5 million barrels of Premium gasoline and 2.2 million barrels of diesel in June.

"The import constitutes of about 30 percent of the total domestic demand for subsidized fuels," spokesman Basuki Trikora Putra said.

Trikora said the import was routine and had nothing to do with the current partial shutdown of the company's refinery in Cilacap, Central Java.

"The import is a routine procedure to meet domestic demand, which is higher than our refineries' production capacity," Trikora said.

Pertamina operates seven refineries with a production capacity of around one million barrels per day; Indonesia consumes 1.4 million barrels per day.(bernard)
