The state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina and BP Indonesia will open tender for the development of underwater gas pipeline in the middle of 2002, according to Pertamina spokesman Haryanto.

Haryanto said Tuesday that the gas pipeline would connect the BP?s Kepodan gas field and the Tambak Lorok gas-fired power generator owned by the state electricity company PLN.

He said that the pipeline was expected to be completed in 2004.

The gas pipeline would be crucial for PLN as it would allow the Tambak Lorok unit to fully use gas.

The 1,300 MW Tambak Lorok power generating unit, located in Semarang, Central Java, is currently using a combination of fuel and gas.

Haryanto said that Pertamina was currently negotiating the price of the gas. The pipeline will deliver some 160 million cubic feet of gas per day over 10 years period.(Arry)
