Pertamina to raise LPG price later this year

Wednesday, August 31 2005 - 02:19 AM WIB

State owned oil and gas company Pertamina will raise the price of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) by between 15 percent and 20 percent to about Rp 5,040 per kilogram by the end of this year from Rp 4,200 per kilogram at present.

With the new price, LPG with 15 kilogram-container will sell for about Rp 75,600.

“We are just waiting for the right time to increase the LPG price. The increase could be made in one time, or gradually,” said Pertamina’s director for commerce and marketing Ari Sumarsono said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Ari said that the increase would be needed to meet the surge in the price of LPG in the international market which had reached US$500 per ton, or equivalent to Rp 500 per kilogram.

The increase will be the first this year. In 2004, Pertamina increased the price of LPG twice to meet the increase -in the price of the natural gas. (dino)
