Pertamina to seek LNG cargo from Oman, Nigeria

Monday, June 20 2005 - 02:42 AM WIB

State oil and gas company PT. Pertamina Tbk. said on Monday that it was in talks with Oman and Nigeria to procure one LNG cargo for July delivery to be shipped to Indonesia?s customer in East Asia.

?Pertamina has already sent teams to Oman and Nigeria to buy one LNG cargo. This time we have the money ready from Ministry of Finance? said Pertamina?s director in charge of marketing Ari Soemarno.

The government is seeking to buy LNG abroad to be supplied to its overseas buyers to meet the needs of fertilizer firms in Aceh. The fertilizer firms are facing shortage of natural gas supplies following the decrease in the gas output in the province. The situation forced Pertamina to cut LNG supplies to LNG buyers.

Ari admitted that talks to buy one LNG cargo from Oman for June delivery failed as the Ministry of Finance failed to transfer fund to Pertamina to make the purchase. (godang)
