State oil and gas company Pertamina said Tuesday it would begin turnaround of Balikpapan II refinery in East Kalimantan on Wednesday and would close the refinery for 54 days.

?This is just routine maintenance, ? said Pertamina downstream director Muchsin Bahar, adding that the company had secured oil product supply from Kuwait.

"Tomorrow, we'll start with Hydrocracker unit, and the second week of April we'll work on crude distillation unit," he said.

Balikpapan II has the capacity to refine around 220,000 barrels of oil per day.

Muchsin also said Pertamina planned to shut its 125,000-bpd Balongan refinery in West Java for around 60 days in August for routine maintenance and that it had prepared to secure the supply of domestic oil products for both of the closures.(godang)
