State-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina hopes to sign in May a MoU with a prospective partner for the construction of a new refinery in Tuban, East Java, President Director Dwi Sutjipto said on Tuesday.

Processing Director of Pertamina Rachmad Hardadi said earlier to Petromindo.com that five foreign companies were competing to be the strategic partner of Pertamina in developing an estimated US$8-9 billion refinery project in Tuban.

The five companies include Saudi Aramco (Saudi Arabia), Kuwait Petroleum International or KPI (Kuwait), Rosneft (Russia), Sinopec (China), and a consortium of Thailand firms PTT GC and Thai Oil.
