State owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina (Pesero) will team with three other state owned enterprises (SOEs) ? PT LEN Industri, PT Energi Management Indonesia and PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur ? to develop solar power plants in various parts of the country.

The solar power plants will be built on idle lands belonging to Pertamina and other SOEs, Investor Daily reported on Friday.

Pertamina?s spokesperson Wianda Pusponegoro was quoted as saying that the cooperation among the SOEs aimed to support the government?s 35,000 MW program, which includes 8.8 GW power projects using renewable energy or 25 percent of the total capacities of the 35,000 MW projects. The government has targeted the development of 5 MW solar power through 2020. Pertamina is committed to building 1000 MW solar power.

In the first phase, Pertamina in cooperation with the three firms will build 60 MW in 2017 in North Sumatra. Over the next three years, the firm will build a total of 200 MW, she said. (*)
