Pertamina to use IT to monitor fuel usage

PT Pertamina (Persero), which is tasked to distribute most of subsidized oil fuels, will use information technology (IT) to monitor and control the use of subsidized fuel.
"We will implement a (IT-based) monitoring system, which is expected to be able to save fuel up to a minimum of 1.5 million kiloliters," said Pertamina?s Director of Marketing and Commerce Hanung Budya on Thursday.
Hanung hoped the implementation of the Monitoring and Control System would prevent or reduce hoarding practices.
However, he said, Pertamina is still waiting for a joint decree of the three institutions, namely the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Home Affairs, and Indonesian National Police before implementing the program.
Hoarding practices, backed up by police and military member, are rampant now in many parts of the country due to the wide gap between the price of subsidized and non-subsidized fuels. That?s the reason why demand for subsidized fuels has been sharply increasing in many parts of the country, particularly in mining areas, and many governors are asking for more supplies of subsidized fuels from Pertamina.
